Interviewer: Hello! Nice to meet you. Thank you for your agreement to take part in our survey. It’s anonymous, so you don’t have to tell me your name.
Respondent: Hello. Nice to meet you too!
Interviewer: OK. Let’s get started. In our survey we are asking 14-15year old students who are studying in the 9th grade about their hobbies. Which grade are you from?
Respondent: I’m in the ninth grade. Actually, I’m fifteen now. I’ll be sixteen in a few days. I went to school at seven, so I’m a bit older than most of my classmates. Is it OK?
Interviewer: You are in the ninth grade, so that’s all right. First of all, I’d like to ask whether you’ve got a hobby at all.
Respondent: Sure, I have! My friends call me ‘energizer’ as always engaged in different activities such as dancing, singing and participating in various talk shows. I used to go in for tennis, but gave it up.
Interviewer: That sounds interesting, let’s start with dancing. Are you doing it on your own or with a teacher?
Respondent: I take ballroom dancing classes in a studio near my school in Moscow but we sometimes go to other cities to take part in contests. Last year I managed to visit three cities abroad.
Interviewer: Were they in different countries?
Respondent: Sure, we went to an international contest to the Netherlands, to Amsterdam last May, won the second place and then took part in two more in Paris and Milan but our team was not very lucky as we were number 10 and then 8 there. Nevertheless, we are very proud of representing Russia internationally. But we managed to visit three countries last year.
Interviewer: Sounds great! You can consider yourself professional! But you also mentioned singing.
Respondent: Yes, I did. My dream since early childhood has been becoming a professional singer. My favorite singer is Mylene Farmer and it was the reason for the choice of a foreign language to study. The most widely learned language at school is English, but I did my best to enter a school where French is taught.
Interviewer: You mean you don’t learn English?
Respondent: No, I learn French.
Interviewer: How do you manage to study with so many hobbies? Is it difficult?
Respondent: It’s not very easy, but if you like something, you find a way! My teachers are very helpful and understanding. Sometimes they allow me to miss classes to participate in a talk show, but it’s not often, only a couple of times last year.
Interviewer: Really? That’s what I call cooperation.
Respondent: You’re right. My teachers are very outgoing and my math teacher even holds additional classes for me to catch up with the rest.
Interviewer: I agree Mathematics is important nowadays. Lucky you have such professional teachers! Thank you for the interview, it was very interesting talking to you!
Respondent: You are welcome!
