bring someone up – raise or rear a child
She brought six boys up.
call something off – cancel something
We’ll have to call the barbecue off. It’s going to rain.
let someone down – disappoint someone
I trusted Jeff, but he let me down badly.
pack something in – leave or end something (a job, a relationship, etc.)
She’s packed her job in and has gone to India.
ring someone up – telephone someone
He rang his brother up.
take someone off – imitate someone in a humorous way
He can take George Bush off beautifully.
