The ripped note

Lauren pulled a ten-pound note from her pocket but as she did so it suddenly ripped down the middle. ‘Oh no, I don’t believe it, it’s ruined! And now I ( LOSE ) ten pounds!’ she said to her friend, Pete.

Why don’t you tape the two pieces back together? I’m sure it ( BE ) fine,’ Pete replied. Lauren had her doubts about this, but she decided to try it.

She got some tape from her desk and taped the note together as Pete had suggested. But an hour later, when she tried to buy a sandwich, the shop owner refused her note. When she asked why, the surly shop owner said, ‘Sorry, but sometimes two halves ( NOT MAKE ) a whole.’
