Lance Arnstrong
A) In 1991, Armstrong competed in his first race, the Tour DuPont: a long and difficult 12-stage race, covering 1,085 miles over 11 days. He did not win the race, but he did very well. After that, he took part in many races and won quite a few.
В) There are many reasons why I admire Lance Armstrong. He is a brave, hardworking and positive person. He did not give up on his career and dreams because of his disease. As an athlete he is strong and talented. He proved that anything is possible and that dreams can come true.
С) In October 1996, the doctors diagnosed him with cancer. It was a great shock for him, but he managed to fight the disease and in 1997 he was healthy again. People did not believe him when he said that he would race again. They were all surprised when he won the Tour de France in 1999. Lance was again the best cyclist in the world. I really admire my elder brother (Я по-настоящему восхищен своим старшим братом). His name is Daniel and he works as a fire fighter (Его зовут Даниель и н работает пожарником). He was born in the same place as me, Cambridge, in January 1976 (Он родился в том же самом месте, что и я, в Кэмбридже в январе 1976 года). He is tall and skinny although he is very fit (Он высокий и худой, хотя он имеет очень спортивную форму). He wants to become a fire chief one day and be in charge of an area; maybe even Fire Chief for the whole country (Он хочет стать начальником пожарной охраны когда-нибудь и отвечать за район; может быть, даже начальником пожарной охраны всей страны).
I admire Daniel because he wants to help people and because he is determined and passionate about life and his work (Я восхищаюсь Даниелем, потому что он хочет помогать людям и потому что он решительный и сильно любящий жизнь и свою работу).
