You are going to give a talk about transport. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences).
Remember to say:
• why public transportation is important in cities
• what types of public transport are available in your area
• advantages and disadvantages of using public transport
• your experience with public transportation
You have to talk continuously.
Public transportation is crucial in cities for several reasons. It helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution by decreasing the number of private vehicles on the road. Public transport also provides an affordable and accessible means of travel for people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, promoting social equity. Additionally, it supports urban development by connecting different parts of the city efficiently.
In my area, we have a variety of public transport options. Buses are the most common, with an extensive network covering most of the city. We also have a light rail system that connects major neighborhoods and the city center. For longer distances, there’s a commuter train service linking our city to nearby towns. Bike-sharing programs have also become popular recently, offering an eco-friendly alternative for shorter trips.
Using public transport has both advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, it’s generally more cost-effective than owning and maintaining a car, especially when considering parking fees in busy urban areas. It’s also more environmentally friendly and can be less stressful than driving in heavy traffic. However, there are drawbacks. Public transport can be crowded during peak hours, and you’re bound by fixed schedules and routes, which can be inconvenient. There’s also the potential for delays due to traffic or technical issues.
Personally, I use public transportation regularly to get to school and meet friends. While it took some time to get used to reading bus schedules and planning my trips, I now appreciate the independence it gives me. I enjoy the time I can spend reading or listening to music during my commute. However, I’ve also experienced the frustration of missed connections and overcrowded buses during rush hour. Despite these occasional inconveniences, I believe public transportation is a valuable service that benefits both individuals and the community as a whole.
