You are going to give a talk about shopping. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences).
Remember to say:
• why people enjoy shopping
• what types of shops are popular in your area
• how online shopping has changed consumer habits
• your attitude towards shopping
You have to talk continuously.
People enjoy shopping for various reasons. It can be a form of entertainment, providing a fun way to spend time with friends or family. Shopping also allows individuals to express their personal style and identity through their purchases. For some, it’s a stress-relieving activity, offering a temporary escape from daily pressures. Additionally, the thrill of finding a good deal or a unique item can be quite satisfying.
In my area, several types of shops are popular. Shopping malls remain a go-to destination, housing a variety of clothing stores, electronics shops, and food courts. Specialty stores focusing on items like books, sports equipment, or beauty products are also well-frequented. Recently, there’s been a rise in popularity of local boutiques and artisanal shops, which offer unique, often locally-made products.
Online shopping has significantly changed consumer habits. It’s made shopping more convenient, allowing people to browse and purchase items 24/7 from the comfort of their homes. The ability to easily compare prices across multiple retailers has made consumers more price-conscious. Online reviews and product comparisons have also made shoppers more informed. However, this shift has led to decreased foot traffic in physical stores and changed the way retailers approach customer service and store layouts.
Personally, I have a mixed attitude towards shopping. While I enjoy the experience of browsing in physical stores and trying on clothes, I appreciate the convenience and wider selection offered by online shopping. I try to be mindful of my spending and avoid impulse purchases. I’m also becoming more conscious of sustainable and ethical shopping practices, preferring to buy quality items that will last longer. Overall, I see shopping as a necessary activity that can be enjoyable when done in moderation and with consideration for both personal needs and broader impacts.
