The Tiger and the Monkey
An old Tiger lives in the jungle. Every day he asks one of the animals to bring him something to eat.
One morning he sees a Monkey and says, “I am hungry, Monkey. Go to the village and bring me a fat piglet.”
“Oh, Tiger,” cries the Monkey. “I cannot do that. There is another tiger, who is younger and stronger than you are. He tells me not to bring you anything. He is so fierce that I’m afraid of him. ”
“What?!” growls the old Tiger. “Show me that tiger. I want to speak to him.”
“Come with me,” says the Monkey. “I know where he lives.”
The Tiger and the Monkey go to a large river.
“Now look into the water,” says the Monkey. “Do you see there in the river the head, the white teeth and the large yellow eyes of another tiger?”
“Yes, I do,” cries the old Tiger. “I want to eat him up!” And with these words he jumps into the river, and the Monkey sees him no more.
Тигр и Обезьяна
В джунглях живёт старый тигр. Каждый день он просит кого-либо из животных принести ему что-нибудь поесть.
Однажды утром он видит Обезьяну и говорит:
— Я голоден, Обезьяна. Иди в деревню и принеси мне жирного поросёнка.
— О, Тигр! — кричит Обезьяна. — Я не могу это сделать. Есть другой тигр, который моложе и сильнее, чем ты. Он велит мне не приносить тебе ничего. Он такой свирепый, что я боюсь его.
— Что?! — рычит старый Тигр. — Покажи мне того тигра. Я хочу поговорить с ним.
— Пойдём со мной. — говорит Обезьяна. — Я знаю, где он живёт.
Тигр и Обезьяна идут к большой реке.
— А теперь посмотри в воду, — говорит Обезьяна. — Ты видишь в реке голову, белые зубы и большие жёлтые глаза другого тигра?
— Да, вижу, — кричит старый Тигр. — Я хочу его съесть. И с этими словами он прыгает в реку, и Обезьяна больше
его не видит.
