The sport has been around since the 15th century, with records ( SHOW ) that it was played by one of the royal families of the Malay region at that time.

The word ‘sepak’ is Malay for ‘kick’ and ‘takraw’ is Thai for ‘woven ball’; thus, the name of the sport literally means ‘kick ball’. The combination of these words from different languages represents a symbol of solidarity between two of the ( POWERFUL ) countries in the region.
