Every day school starts at eight and is over at half past one and on certain days, somewhat later. It depends on the timetable and additional lessons in some subjects. On some days lessons flash by very quickly, especially if they are humanities, which I like most, but they are dragging more slowly if it is science like Physics, Chemistry or Maths and especially when we have to write tests in them. In general I enjoy my school hours because they are instructive and interesting, and besides i can meet friends there and chat with them during the breaks, which is fun. The best time for that is the lunch break, since it is the longest and lasts for about 25 minutes.
Tuesday is the day when I stay at school longer than usual, because we have a meeting of the school council of which I am a member.
After classes I go home and have dinner and a short rest for about an hour or so. In the afternoons I am usually busy doing my homework. I either go to the public library to bonow some required materials in different subjects or stay at home and do my composition writing, read up for classes in Russian or Belarusian literatures or do Maths. My homework usually takes me the rest of the day. When evening comes and if I have some free time left, which happens very seldom, I go for a walk or meet my friends. Occasionally, I go to the theatre at the weekend as a rule. I’m a great theatre-lover. But I am not fond of watching television. I rarely sit in front of the TV set.
Eight o’clock is supper time in our family and we all get together in the kitchen. That is the only time when we can see each other and talk about different things. At ten o’clock I have a cup of tea with my elder sister Julia and we talk in private.
I go to bed at 11 o’clock. Before falling asleep I read a book or listen to music.
I must add here that I hardly do any household chores in my final year at school. My parents are very understanding and they try to take as much care of me as they can. But sometimes I do my bit about the house. I clean my room, help with washing and also do some smaller things.
That’s all I can say about my working day.

I must say that at present I find it hard to describe a working day that I might call typical. There’s hardly any variation in what I’m doing these days except learning topics or practising my grammar, so the best thing will be to describe my working day when I was still at school. We had a six-day working week. The time-table was very tough with 6 or 7 lessons every day and each lesson needed a lot of preparation for it. In my final year I took my learning very seriously. So I never missed a lesson and tried to do my best to be well-prepared for each of them.
My working day usually started like this. It may sound very unusual but I often got up as early as five o’clock in the morning, i I found it more convenient and easy to do my homework at , that time. Early morning was the most effective time for me. I could memorize things more quickly and easily than in the evening when I was usually exhausted after seven or eight lessons at school. Doing my homework in the morning usually ‘j took me about 3 hours. I had only half an hour to get myself ready and leave home. Luckily the lessons started at 8.30 instead of 8 as they do in most schools. Some days at school were more difficult, some were easier but every day they required concentration and attention. Most difficult for me were the lessons in Geography and Astronomy. Though I was fairly good at them, I found them somewhat boring.
Normally school lasted till 3 o’clock. We had a long lunch break but I never went to the school canteen. I got used to eating nothing till afternoon. Sometimes I stayed at school after classes either to play volleyball or to do some crafts. Our school president’s administration arranged several kinds of extra-class activities like concerts, debate clubs, sports competitions and picnics. Frankly speaking I wasn’t their active participant. I mainly did such things as painting and decorating.
Frequently I was back home later than 3 o’clock. I had dinner, took my dog for a walk and then sat down to doing my homework, learning languages in priority. After that I either watched TV, if there was something interesting on, or later in the evening did a bit of painting which is a sort of a hobby for me. It helped me to relax and at the same time to develop my artistic skill and imagination.
I went to bed at 10 or even earlier than that as I usually got up early. That was the end of the day and then, another day, very similar to the previous one, started.
Of course at times there were other things to do like going shopping, doing sports and so on. Here I should say there were not many household chores that I did in my final year at school as my mother and my grandmother were very understanding and tried to protect me from spending my precious time on anything else but learning. And I didn’t mind that. Certainly there were things which I liked doing and those which I didn’t, and which I had to do without much enthusiasm. Unfortunately I had very little time for rest i.e. either going out or meeting my friends. But I think working hard was the right thing to do.
That’s all I can say about my daily activities when I was a school-leaver.
